It's difficult for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the unit that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

That it took until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over five decades.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if not provided the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting a platform to create her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this knock was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

When she was removed her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

That comment will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

In recent days a sense they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this victory following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

Yet even as she afterwards confessed those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
