In a unexpected collaboration that defies usual predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an digital crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing free extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Questline Revealed

According to the official release, "An unusual encounter pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where hints of banned rituals and terrifying metamorphoses resonate through the darkness." The plot features a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the characters with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her companion from a hidden group.

The mission concentrates on "peculiar experiments and a fearsome adversary" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Locations and Transformations

The trailer highlights the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer finishes with a striking scene showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Prizes and Bonus Content

Players who finish the mission will receive an unique katana together with multiple artifacts concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-themed outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Unique implements
• Survey Corps mount

Latest Free Story Update

This patch also introduces the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a original environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Collaborations

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series previously included a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that obviously referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
